Knowledgebase:

PC notebooks and VGAtor VGAtor is compatible with a wide range of PC notebooks - see here for details. Compatibility is determined by the support of the graphics chipset for the resolutions of Apple's DVI and ADC displays. Recently these resolutions have become part of the VESA standard, so compatibility will improve as drivers are updated by the notebook manufacturers to support the full standard.

iMac G4, iMac G5 and iBook G4 models will only mirror the internal display by default. With a firmware patch, unsupported by Apple, this can be expanded to full dual display capability. We have not encountered any issues with this and have enjoyed trouble-free external DVI and ADC displays on a number of computers for many months now without the slightest side effect. MacWorld has a blog on their experience with the iMac G5.

The Apple 30" Cinema HD Display is supported in Presentation Mode only. In this mode video signals are transmitted using the single-link DVI standard. The resolution is at 1280 x 800 - ideal for boardroom presentations to small and medium sized groups. We have tested Presentation Mode with PowerBook G4 with VGA output (Titanium and Aluminium models), older PowerBooks do not work!

Mac and PC computers with DVI cards should be using DVIator. However, sometimes VGAtor is the only option - e.g. if the DVI chip on your video card has failed and you have a VGAtor available. VGAtor may provide a temporary solution until you can replace your DVI video card, but we have found that some cards demonstrate unexpected results - particularly Radeon 9000 Mac cards - which have an irritating habit of immediately shutting down the computer when they detect an Apple ADC display connected via VGA port. Please contact our technical support if you require a solution.

Please do not hesitate to contact technical support if you have any question about your VGAtor.
